Task 2c

After a very reluctant start, I actually really enjoyed writing this and got very involved in my thoughts.

Hi Rebecca,

A really interesting piece to read. I completely relate to your idea about Kolb's learning cycle; we approach tasks differently, depending on what it entails. When I had to try and pinpoint my learning style I found it quite difficult and ending up deciding that I enter at two different points. I also think that you learn differently on different days. I used a tap class as an example; sometimes I learn really well just by copying the feet and then other days the steps have to be spelled out to me. It really depends on how my brain is working that day!!

I also agree with the your comments on teaching and constantly monitoring the lesson. I am currently teaching pre school children and their concentration levels are extremely low, so I am constantly adapting to keep them engaged!

I read your line of enquiry task and you mentioned about the use of props and music within the class. I use lots of props such as scarves, masks, sticks, musical instruments. These really do keep the children engaged and I would suggest giving them a try!

Take care, Jo :)

Hi Rebecca,

It seems clear that reflective practice is really helping you realise what areas of your teaching needs improvement. I am certainly finding the same. By actively engaging with my thoughts I am improving as a teacher far more rapidly than I was before.

In your piece you say:

"The role of a teacher is to pass their knowledge on to their students"

I would have to disagree with you there. That certainly is part of the role of a teacher, because you want your students to gain knowledge as a result of attending your classes. However, I think the role of a teacher is more about facilitating learning. A teachers job is to enable the student to learn, not to just pass on knowledge. Would you agree?

I agree Liam but in this instance I was merely touching upon that aspect of teaching. I agree that there are many varied properties that a teacher should have and I have not yet written about the others. When you say I am a bit too specific with my inquiry I understand what you are saying. I am very specific and particular in everyday life and I like to work on little bits at a time, its just the way I work. Maybe I should work on that.

Thank you for your advice
